Software that works hard FOR YOU

Click to see full-size image When you open the Makin’ Groceries program, the SHOPPING LIST (or main) screen is displayed. Using the PREVIOUS and NEXT button, you can scan through shopping lists that you have already created. In the data that we have included, there is a shopping list dated 06-05-09 based on my menu for the week of 06-07-09 and 06-13-09. There is also a list dated 06-16-09. At the time the database was created, this shopping list was in the future and was created to help me remember items that I would need to buy on my next shopping day. To the shopping list I can add meals, recipes, individual items, or a menu using the ADD button on the left side of the screen.

Click to see full-size image To create a new shopping list click NEW. The NEW SHOPPING LIST screen will appear (see far right) and you can enter a date for your shopping list. Then you can choose to create your SHOPPING LIST from scratch, a menu based on dates, or build from a prior shopping.

Click to see full-size image ADD – allows you to add to an existing shopping list. Enter a MEAL, RECIPE, ITEM, or a MENU based on a beginning and ending date. The ADD TO SHOPPING LIST (above left) will be displayed. If necessary, you can add new MEALS, RECIPES, and ITEMS by clicking on these buttons in the top right corner of the screen.

Click to see full-size image EDIT – You can edit a line on the SHOPPING LIST by clicking on an item once and then clicking EDIT or you can just double-click on the item. If you need to change an item that is normally a “buy” item to buy zero this shopping trip only, this is how you would make that temporary change to your shopping list. You may have these ingredients on hand because you found them at a super sale price or because you had a recipe listed last week that for whatever reason you didn’t get to cook and you are “re-listing” that recipe this week on your menu. Clicking the EDIT button will bring up the EDIT SHOPPING LIST screen. (See next page for screen shot.)

Click on the CHKLIST button on the left side of the screen to get a printed list of the details that make up all the items to be checked against your “pantry” stock. The report is handy for taking to your pantry, fridge, or freezer for checking items. (See example on page 11.)

Click to see full-size image Double-Click on an item that needs to be checked against your pantry stock. (Or click on an item once and then hit the EDIT button.) The EDIT SHOPPING LIST screen will be displayed. You will see the details for when an item is needed for the menu dates that you have used. In the example to the right, “Biscuits - Frozen - Mary B’s - bag 20 ct” is on the menu three times. I need 6 biscuits for 06-11, 12 biscuits for the MEAL “Roast/Gravy plus” on 06-12, and 10 for 06-13-09. I would need to check my freezer to see if I have any on hand and then decide how many 20 count bags I need to buy. I would then double-click on one of these lines and edit the quantity I want to purchase using the second EDIT SHOPPING LIST screen. (See screen shot to the right)

When you return to the SHOPPING LIST, you will see that that item has changed from CHK to ok in the CHECK column.

Click to see full-size image Clicking this button will print out your SHOPPING LIST. You are given two choices with or without blanks. (See Reports on pages 12-16 at the end of this Quick Start Guide.) The blanks allow space to keep track of prices and locations within the store as you shop.

Click to see full-size image After you have completed your shopping trip and have your printed shopping list with new prices and locations within the store for each item, you can UPDATE the information in makin’ groceries. Click the UPDATE button to enter the new prices and locations for each item. Use the TAB key on your keyboard to move through the fields to make your changes. Hit ENTER or click OK to go back to your shopping list
